The 1st and 2nd indicate the year of manufacture for the 6 digit serial numbers which we've been using since 2000. Examples -. 9 xxx = 1989 (4 digit number beginning with "9" used only in 1989) WebIf the serial number begins with the ‘L’ prefix, it’s a guitar made in the early 1960s. If the prefix has an ‘S’ at the beginning of the serial number, your guitar is from the 1970s. If you spot an ‘E’ at the beginning of the serial number, your model was made in the 1980s.
